In our stumbling around the Internet, I found numerous blogs devoted to baseball cards, sports cards, or the trading card industry, but whether due to a lack of actual sites, or just my giving up too easily, I never found a site devoted solely to football cards. So, I set out to start one.
I readily admit that I haven't been life long collector's--I have a bunch of cards from the early 80's, which I'm guessing must have been more or less my brother's, since I was only 4 when that particular set came out, but I have most of them now. We then ended up stopping until 1986, when I managed to put together a nearly complete Topps set--the only card I am missing is somehow a Dave Duerson card, which I did have, but it had a large crease in it. For whatever reason, I still haven't bothered to get one, either--possibly as the set is realistically only in marginal shape anyway. And before anyone asks, yes, I did have a handful of Jerry Rice rookies--but I managed to trade them all away for next to nothing before I was smart enough to realize any better--I believe for the two I traded away, I got $20, a copy of Total Recall on VHS (a long story as to how that came about, which I will inevitably bore you with at some point), and rookie cards of Christian Okoye and Eric Dickerson. Fortunately, I do still have one copy for my set, and I have a few Steve Youngs that I managed to keep as well.
After that, it was pretty much random packs (or the occasional random cheap box, which I was convinced would someday pay for my retirement), until 1999, when I a) had a little bit of discretionary income, and b) realized that Target sold cards. I bought a few boxes, and started to get back into the hobby to a degree, even if I was cluelessly focusing mostly on retail boxes.
Then, in 2000, while interning at a company farther away from home than I had ever lived, two things happened--1) I lived with a roommate that I discovered had collected sports cards fairly heavily into his teens, and 2) I discovered eBay. Both of us spent the majority of our paychecks that year paying for our re-entry into the hobby.
In recent years, I've started to get a little more serious about my collection, buying more and more hobby boxes, and being willing to buy higher end sets. I still do check out what Target is carrying from time to time, and will still pick up the occasional blaster box or mixed bag "sucker box" for fun, but I spend more time online at eBay, and at a local card shop that has started to grow out of the ashes of the local chain that dominated the local scene for years with relatively crappy service and selection, until a series of unfortunate events drove them out of business.
And, with the "encouragement" of a spouse who thinks I spend too much time and money on my hobby, I may even start to sell some cards at shows in the coming year, and investigate what other opportunities are out there for me in the industry--like this blog, possibly some other Web stuff, as well as possibly even finding my way to some involvement in a local shop, since it has been somewhat of a dream of mine since childhood.
But, in the meantime, I invite you to check out this blog, follow along and comment with the postings, send me your feedback & opinions, and hopefully enjoy the hobby as much as I do!
***UPDATE***
Holy crap, what a long About Us page! Maybe I'll try to edit that down at some point. And in all that text, apparently I forgot to put my email address on there. So, if you want to get in touch with me, email me at tony(at)thefootballcardblog.com (not a link--just coded it to make it more noticable).

Thanks for putting a link up to TwinsCards.com. You’ve actually linked to our blog, but hey…a link is a link. Although I have very little involvement, several of the people who were helpful in creating my site also have put together VikingsCards.com, http://www.vikingscards.com. Check it out.
I’ll be including your site in my links during the next update. Keep up the great work.

This is a cool blog. I live in the Twin Cities area and have recently got back into collecting football cards. Are there any card stores where you can get hobby boxes of football cards?? I am getting most my stuff on ebay but it would be nice to have a card shop to go to as well.
